Following on the success of our May, 2017 workshop when we distributed over 50 free trees, the RHRA is again hosting a TreeForMe workshop this October 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 99 Springmount.

Tree For Me matches residents of Toronto with a free, native tree that they can pick up at the Regal Heights “Tree For Me” event on October 14. But pre-registration is required. Check out TreeforMe.ca!

All trees in the Tree For Me program are sourced from native local seed stock. Trees come in two gallon buckets, weigh approximately 5 lbs (2.3 kg) and are 2 to 5 feet (61-152cm) tall. Trees will fit in a car, grocery trolly or on the TTC.

Tree For Me is a granting program for community and charitable groups who would like aid in the goal of increasing Toronto’s tree canopy to 40% by 2050.

At the RHRA, we work to ensure that participants receive a tree that is best suited for their desired planting space.

On October 14, there will be a workshop on proper tree planting and tree care and you will go home with handy reference materials. As a measurement of success and a method for follow-up, we encourage you to map your new tree with Forest Ontario at www.greenleafchallenge.ca . This tool allows new tree owners to literally make their tree count towards the campaign while learning about the environmental benefits of their newly planted tree.
