INVITATION TO PLAQUE UNVEILING
The Regal Heights Residents’ Association is hosting an event to honour Florence Watts.
Save the Date: Saturday, October 18, 2025 at 10 am
Florence was very involved in our community for many years and helped improve our neighbourhood in many ways, including establishing and developing Daffodil Hill. Located at the base of the hill along the north side Davenport Road at Dufferin Street, hundreds of daffodil bulbs were planted over decades to transform the hill from a neglected strip to a glorious spring display. A plaque honouring Florence has been installed at Daffodil Hill. We are now hosting the official unveiling.
We invite you to attend, and join neighbours, community participants, and local politicians in honouring Florence’s contributions!
Post Event Report
Politicians, neighbours and friends gathered at the foot of Daffodil Hill on Davenport Road Saturday, Oct. 18 to unveil a plaque honouring one of the neighbourhood’s most beloved community builders.
The late Florence Watts began working on projects in Regal Heights back in the 1970s when she, along with her husband Dick, helped found the Regal heights Residents’ Association.
Florence was known for her quiet, friendly but determined way of getting just about anybody to do just about any project. Over the decades she helped found a daycare, created and maintained public gardens, helped manage the annual Christmas Carol Sing and many other projects. But perhaps her most visible contribution was Daffodil Hill on the south side of Regal Road School.
The hillside was mostly barren when she began planting bulb there. She used her quiet charm to get the bulbs – usually for free – and to attract the volunteers to plant them. Under her direction, the community began adding trees. More trees sprung up on their own, transforming the once derelict space into an urban forest brightened by yellow flowers every spring.
The plaque now sits in the middle of that space, a lasting memorial to Florence’s dedication to making Regal Heights the lovely place it is today.
